Bubbling plastic

There's a thin (I'm assuning protective) film of plastic that's behind the screen, you can see it with the slider open. Mine started to bubble...would it harm anything to take it off?
I've had my droid since thanksgiving and love it, but bubblibg plastic annoys the crap out of me.

Apparently Motorola and Verizon both say it was just there for shipping purposes, and that it should have been removed upon first use. Some leave theirs on. However, since yours is already coming off, go ahead and remove it completely.
