Bright setting

Okay, so the four buttons (not sure what they're called) on the bottom of my phone weren't lighting up at all, someone showed me to fix it by turning up the brightness instead of it being on the automatic setting, it worked but the problem is that now I have to do it everytime I turn the phone on or off, and sometimes a little while later even without the phone being turned off. Does anyone know how to make this change permanent??

How do keep it lit all the time? Mine goes on at startup,and later will go off.
