which version of recovery are you using? older versions had issues with restoring and permissions......can you adb shell into it from recovery? if so we may be able to fix and flash your recovery to at least version.11 and should work

Did you back up all of your restore files? from your sdcard .. the nandroid folder? You should copy that back over to your sd card and make sure you delete the 2.1 rom you downloaded from the nandroid folder so its just your old files you had before you tried to install.. you should be able to then boot into recovery and restore do a nandroid restore .. sorry if you already tried that >_<

I think tdawg5480 is talking about that format steps when installing the 2.1rom

The installation procedure is as follows:

    1. Boot into recovery. Open an ADB shell from your computer.

    2. Format the data on the current partitions. This is important to ensure that a clean install is made. Issue the following commands from the ADB root shell (in recover)

    format DATA:
    format SYSTEM:
    format CACHE:

    3. Run NANDROID restore from the nandroid recovery sub-menu.

I am in the same position only my original backup was somehow overwritten and now I have zip except the new 2.1 images inside /sdcard/nandroid/BCDMRS-20091219-1559/

I have tried just putting the 2.1 files inside nandroid directly without the subdir. Neither way works and nandroid refuses to restore. No errors. Just my phone hanging at the Moto logo.

I have SirPsychoS (0.14.0) recovery image installed and for some reason, even though I have just that single subdirectory in nandroid, when I select 'advanced nandroid restore' there are three choices. Regular restore doesn't do anything either.

I think I've retraced my steps over and over for the last 4 hours with no luck. I believe I may be well and truly screwed, especially with my original backup gone.

    Any hope at all?

Found the problem. Any nandroid updates can't just have the individual files placed in /sdcard/nandroid. My path for proper restore had to be /sdcard/nandroid/console=ttyS2,115200n8/BCDMRS-19700101-0011 in order to properly install.

    Hope this helps someone else.
