bottom buttons and keyboard illumination

I noticed that the bottom fourbuttons and keyboard generally don't illuminate immediately when I turn my Droid on. I usually have to go to settings and fool around with the brightness settings to get them on. Is this normal?

I don't know but I got a replacement Droid and the bottom buttons have a purplish tint to the light....

Normal battery save feature... first wake up with no backlights.... hit the power button again to sleep... then again to do a second wake up and the lights come on...

Quicker than messing with brightness controls
