I recently powered off my Droid and when I turned it back on, all I saw was "bootloader" and something that requested I plug my USB cable in. Should I worry that I downloaded something malicious?

It sound like you got the recovery you use with RSDlite (that is used to reprogram the phone)

Like if you hold up on the dpad while turning it on

EDIT: did it look like this http://wfmh.org.pl/carlos/blog/wp-content/mm_bootloader.jpg
