Hey, I wanted to share a boot animation I just threw together. It's full screen, but not too heavy on the size (about 4MB). I didn't create the rendered graphics (props to anyone who knows the source), I just ripped, formatted, and stuck the droid logo on it. Looks great as a full screen boot image, and runs well.

    Enjoy.

    UPDATE:
Higher resolution version now available. 12MB, looks beautiful in higher res and loads as smoothly as previous version, thanks for the feedback. Too big to be uploaded here, so here's the link:

That animation is sick. Seriously doubt I'll be making a permanent change anytime soon.

    no.

you put it in your tools folder in the sdk and all you type in adb is

    adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local

and it's WAY too small. its only 120x180 stretching to a 850x480 or whatever our screen is..

Or the easy way is to use rootexplorer and just copy/paste the bootanimation.zip into your data/local folder.

couple of cool ones i found last night

Or if you're rooted then download the zip and in astro rename it to bootanimation.zip in your download folder, copy the the zip, and paste it in your sdcard. Once that is done go into terminal emulator and type:

    Su
    Dd if=/sdcard/update.zip of=/data/local/update.zip
    Reboot

maybe that is harder than some of the methods previously posted but that works flawlessly for me everyone.

Doesn't look THAT bad...Better than some that I've tried...

Although...I'm having an issue with boot-looping...When I adb push a bootanim, the phone loops when rebooted while plugged in to the computer...I'm guessing it's either because I've got all my sounds on the sd and it's trying to play the "mount" sound, but failing because the sd isn't ready yet, or because I currently have an "unknown" battery state...Think I'll try moving the "mount" sound back to the internal memory and correct the unknown battery issue and try again...

UPDATE: Yeah. That fixed it...Would DEFINITELY love to see this tweaked to proper resolution for the Droid!!! Someone!? Anyone!? Please!?

I'll play with a higher res version, check back Monday or Tuesday. Shouldn't take long.

I kept it low-res for two reasons- the footprint (at 180x120 it's already 4mb), and the load speed. Droid boot animations are uncompressed sequences of images, so as full-screen sequences get higher resolution, it takes more processor power to display the images.

Even at its current resolution i think its my favorite boot animation thus far. If you make it look better then it does now then that is just a bonus for me.

i think it'll be too big at full res, but maybe twice what it is now would work and still be loadable? still gonna use this one, but any improvements would be icing on the cake.

I'm really not that certain about the format of boot animations since I've never tried making one from scratch, however if this boot sequence didn't fill the entire screen (which would be fine IMO), it would look much better. I wouldn't care if there were black bars at the top and bottom (like a widescreen edition). This would improve the pixelation and wouldn't add to space to the overall sequence.

Hi res version is a lot better

With the custom boot M logo along with your hi-res boot animation, it almost makes rebooting fun!!! (Ok maybe thats a stretch but I do like it!)
