I use android mate (is like file explorer in a way), its free and allows you to copy the bootanimation.zip file to the data/local folder

Make sure it's named bootanimation.zip and put it in the system/media folder.

Actually, either place will work - System/Media or Data/Local. I've always used data/local as the place to put bootanimation.zip, because I read somewhere that the android OS looks *first* at data/local, for the boot animation, then if it doesn't find one, it checks system/media.

    Either will work.

Try data/local - but Astro may not be the tool to use. Get Root Explorer from the Market.

Yeah you were right. ASTRO can't modify stuff in the system folder on a rooted phone. Thanks!
