Use root explorer and put it into system\media, make sure you set it to r/w in order to remove old boot animation. Move your current boot animation to another folder if you want to have a copy to restore to later.

What rom are you running? Just put the bootanimation.zip in your sdcard and go to your terminal and type adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local

First off your phone has to be rooted. Then you need to have Root Explorer from the market. Use Root Explorer to put the zip file into system/media folder.

    Thanks bro. Semper Fi!

Thanks to everyone else who has tried it so far.
I plan on making several more. Various themes. A few for Android, others maybe just totally irrelevant to cell phones but something users may like.
Maybe even a few custom requests with users names included and/or pictures of their choice.

I didn't include instructions on how to use it because there is a "Search" option to find out how. Most people who are rooted would understand how this is done anyway so I didn't want a thread being clogged up with tutorial requests. No offense to anyone who asks. I'm just saying....
I'm happy to point anyone in the right direction for assistance on the subject however.

No, you don't have to be rooted to change a boot animation. Just use ADB like this from command prompt on pc.

cd C:\android\tools or whatever your directory path is for the SDK tools folder.
    adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local

The bootanimation.zip has to be in the tools directory when doing this.
