Here's a slick article that talks about Blackberry ditching its Blackberry 10 OS altogether in favor of Android. It seems the only barrier is making Android secure enough. If Blackberry can accomplish that, the app ecosystem on Android is the big draw, and the already huge user-base doesn't hurt either.

This info comes straight from a Blackberry executive who said, "The future is really Android." He clarified that Blackberry would still support BB10 going forward because there are tons of companies and governments who rely on the Blackberry systems already in place. Despite that, eventually Blackberry will likely make Android devices for the mass market from now on.

    BlackBerry's Android Gamble Has Failed
Can't say I didn't see this coming. The smartphone world evolves too fast and this was simply a case of "too little, too late". You can't sit out of the game as long as they did and expect to pick up where you left off. Even after dumping your OS & going with Android.
Well, they gave it a shot and you gotta give them props for that.
    RIP BlackBerry, RIP

I'm not ready to count them out quite yet, but they're gonna need a seriously successful Hail Mary to remain relevant, IMO.

They're kind of in a position like htc right now, if you ask me.

I completely agree that they shouldn't have waited so long to do SOMETHING. They lost many of their faithful to iOS several years ago. Android too, but I get the feeling more shifted to the fruit phones.

While I think they were smart to bet on Android and the ecosystem it brings with it, I wonder if that didn't hurt them with the Priv. I wonder how many former BB warriors passed on the Priv because it ran Android. I'm thinking some had to have thought "That's not why I loved BB. That's not the software I know or would be familiar with"

Maybe I'm way off on every account, but, if they played it right, I could see them gaining more of a foothold. Gonna be a tough uphill climb for sure though.

Only thing I miss from BB is pin to pin messages. They were before the texting plans became unlimited.

I still like to give people crap for "wasting my texts" with short responses like "K".

Hate that crap. When I was paying for each text, it added up quickly.

I had a friend that got texting before anyone else. I signed up for a texting plan soon after. That per text fee added up quick.

Now I get the machine gunner. 1st text, 2nd text, 3rd text which are all one liners. Almost like they couldn't complete their thought process before "Squirrel" kicked in.

I've been guilty of that myself on occasion...
