This was all made by another user named Big Lou. He did an awesome job at making this easier for everyone, so feel free to PM him and say thanks. I'm merely copy and pasting.

Saw that a lot of people were having trouble with boot animation. I was a total noob to all of it about 2 days ago, but I found a tutorial that was dumbed down right to my level :). Good luck, guys. I'll hang around and answer any questions that I can.

wow i still need help :( i now have no boot animation at all. i really felt like i followed all the directions. when i tried to push the first time, it said no such file or something, so i changed the file name to bootanimation (no .zip) then pushed again and it worked...... but now no animation at all.....

update: i was compressing the wrong folder. i noticed this when i would double click on the .zip folder i made, there was a folder inside nexus_bootanimation inside that was the actual boot folders, so i compressed those folders instead and named it bootanimation.zip redid the push and all is well.

thank you for finding this tutorial

Do you have to have a rooted droid in order to use a custom boot animation?

You may want to give me sometime to figure that out. I have a feeling there's an easy way to do it, but I'll ask around.

Just delete the bootanimation.zip from /data/local

    Code:
    adb shell
    rm /data/local/bootanimation.zip

Yes! I had the same problem. Go to your setting and click the option that has something to do with force and then load again

When you go to download the SDK, extract the folder using 7-zip, winrar ect., in the extracted folder theres a .exe file that you have to open and from there download all the necessary files. Chances are you will have the same problem in an earlier post saying it can't fetch the files and to force http blah blah blah. From that point as was stated earlier, you have to go to the settings and click force http, from there it will download everything you need and it will take a little bit to download.

Another thing everyone needs is the USB driver for using the phone in debugging mode. It does come with the drivers but I've downloaded the SDK on two seperate computers and its never worked. Instead go to here and download whichever one for the operating system you have (32 or 64 bit) USB and PC Charging Drivers - Motorola USA

From here do exactly as the tutorial says and you should have your custom boot animation working fine as long as you follow directions correctly. As for custom boots, search the forum. Props to Big Lou for the tut!:icon_ banana:
Edit: One thing I forgot to mention, might help some noobs out, after you download all the files for the SDK, move the entire folder (its going to be about 900 megs or so after the download is completed) onto the root of your main harddisk and rename the folder. For instance what I did was renamed it SDK, put it onto my C: drive (might be a different letter for you but it's the all same) that way when I open cmd.exe, to get to the tools folder I just type cd C:\SDK\tools.

Remember people, search is your friend :)
