This must be new or only tablet related because you've always had to have data enabled to be able to view MMS messages while on WiFi, with Verizon "Smartphones". (regardless of the messaging app you're using)

You can download them with the Verizon Messages app over wifi. I ran that for a while because I could have it on my wifi-only Nexus 7 tablet and send and receive messages while my phone was charging, in the other room, etc.

Must be tablet specific then. That was their big advertisement when they launched it. "Text from your PC, text from your tablet."

I'm betting it has to do with stagefright, but they're never gonna get everyone on 4.0 with that feature broken. I'll leave mine, but only because I already had a backup app installed & setup.

Oh I guarantee it's because of StageFright but update 4.0 so we can get MMS's normally. Google Messenger is affected as well.

Well that's just ludicrous. The ongoing group message I'm in with my fellow board members had android, iPhone, & maybe even a windows phone. I guarantee even the other android users aren't using hangouts.
