Does having WiFi on (and a connection of course) supersede 4G? Or will the Droid use the fastest speed available between the two?

Wifi will be used but the 4G radio is still on unless you turn off mobile network

Wi-Fi will be preferred. Basically with Wi-Fi on, your data will not be used unless you send an mms or you lose your Wi-Fi signal.

In addition to lte OnOff go to smart actions and set a trigger as "display off" and the action as "cellular data disable" and even though it shuts off background data you'll still get texts and calls

I've said it before and I'll say it again: root, purchase Titanium Backup Pro and freeze DRM Protected Content.

Choose the right charge, do not charge over 24 hours, charge before the power used up if it's li-ion battery.
