Obviously the Kernel coming with the ROM should be the best kernel to run, but with that said, I have never seen devices made from the same hardware be so finicky with ROMS and Kernels. Two identical phones will run differently with the same ROM and Kernel. Trial and error use what works for you is what I have seen. Just My Opinion.

I've had best experience with Chevy's new kernels he released last week. They're absolutely amazing!! 19 hours of moderate use, 1Ghz overclocked, background apps, and still going.

Droid Does. Walkin' the walk, while tappin' the talk.

It depends on what you want to do...I can give a little description of the most popular though

Powersave- runs minimum speed all the time (good for low battery/high temp situations)

Ondemand- increases speed as needed in intervals

Min/Max- stays at minimum speed until more speed is needed then goes straight to highest speed

Interactive- like ondemand except it "guesses" when you'll need more speed before you actually need it

Conservative- like ondemand except slower to increase speed (good battery saver)

Smartass/smartmod- same as interactive but lowers speed with screen off automatically

Performance- top speed all the time (benchmarking/speed testing only)

Also, the Smartass Gov will not clock lower than 550mhz.

I use the 1200mhz kernel. Max is of course 1200 Min is 250. Not all phones can overclock to 1200 and stay stable but for some reason mine does. I suggest not going any higher than 1100mhz. I also use the Min/Max gov.

No higher than 1100 without a backup kernel or 2 on your sdcard, its always worth trying to go higher
Not sure how good this is but my linpack benchmarks are from 16.9 - 17.2
