Hey I'm new to the whole Android modding scene and I wanted to know how to backup my firmware before I go on to rooting my phone. My father had an issue with a phone a while back where he lost a lot of privileges and functions after rooting, even loosing his connection to the Verizon network. So I would really like to know how to back up my firmware in an attempt to keep this from happening to my phone.

You always have a fastboot img that has a whole stock os that u can flash in fastboot, after you root you have clockwork to make a nandroid backup of your system that you have as a just in case something goes wrong flashing a mod or rom. Until you root and get a recovery you only have the fastboot img
