I'm wanting to try out some different kernels on my phone, but I'd like to backup the stock CM kernel in case I decide to fall back on it. I read somewhere that this can be done using an advanced setting in Clockworkmod and I was wondering if this was true. Also, are there any drawbacks to this method when restoring the kernel later? Thanks in advance.

There is an advanced backup option within SPRecovery and an advanced restore option within CWRecovery. With SPRecovery you would backup only the 'boot' portion, with CWRecovery, I guess you could make a backup of the whole system and then if you want to restore, just restore the 'boot' portion only. But then if you use ROM Manager to do the restore, it will ask which portions you want to restore anyways, so there you have it; you would select only 'boot'.

    good luck

I always just keep a. Zip of the kernel handy and reflash it. But either way works.

That would be ideal, I just thought there wasn't anywhere to download the Cyanogenmod kernel.

To be honest I'm not sure. I'm pretty sure cm has their own site, you could try there or asking one of the devs. I haven't had the opportunity to run any of the cm ROMs yet.
