Is there a way to unroot using sholesmod back to stock but not lose all applications that have been downloaded?

Here is what I'm trying to do. I want to keep all the apps I have but I want to unroot and redo it all because through all my learning and trying to install roms n such, I feel as though I have dirtied up the system files n such.

Edit- Can a mod please move this to "Hacking Help"

You can use ASTRO to backup your apps.

    Menu - Tools - App Manager/Backup

So I should backup all apps with astro. Drag the folder off my sd card onto my pc. Then unroot with sholesmod back to stock. Mount SD and drag the folder back to the card?

The SD card isn't modified when rooting or ROMing.

you don't need to drag the folder from your sd card to your pc. Rooting or unrooting dont affect your sd card

You certainly can do that, but I dont know why you'd need to -- rooting/unrooting shouldnt have an effect on the contents of your SD card, aside from the files containing ROM information.

No, although some apps store some information on the SD card...like settings, cache, backups, etc.

Word of warning: if you simply back up your apps to ASTRO or any other app backup, you will lose the ability to update your apps because the market won't recognize them until you redownload.

This is highly annoying and nobody every seems to warn people about this.

Yeah you might as well just redownload them :(

Why can't you just make a list of the apps you want?

I mean, if you feel you've 'dirtied' your system in the process of rooting/ROMing, shouldn't you clean the system anyways? Part of that is the apps.
