Is the AVG antivirus app any good? I tried it a few weeks ago and it seemed to have crashed so I deleted it, wondering if anyone else had that problem?

You don't need an AV app.

Because there aren't Android viruses. The couple of malware laden apps that made it into the market about a year ago used a root exploit to do their thing (funny, because rooted users would have had superuser pick this up anyways and thus been safer than non-rooted users). There isn't a current way to root phones via an app (known exploits have been patched), thus there is absolutely nothing an AV app can offer.
