What do you think of the news that Huawei trademarked a Nexus 7P device?
I wasn't aware it was a Nexus line. Just the 7P with huawei's ui.
Huawei trademarks ‘Huawei 7P’ hinting at possible Nexus 6P successor

Ugh. They're going to get themselves into a naming nightmare if they do this. Didn't they just release the P9 or something? And now they're going to release a 7P? I love my 6P, but I think this is a terrible idea for a phone name, regardless of whether it's a Nexus or their skinned UI (which I've only seen in videos, but don't think I'll be a fan of in person).
It was silly enough IMO for the current Nexus line to use the number from previous generations and ad a letter, but this, to me, just clouds things up worse.
I could be wrong, and I have been wrong many times when it comes to predicting devices, but think this may be a joint Google/huawei tablet as we are due for a nexus 7 successor. I still think your report (@dgstorm) about HTC making the next nexus phone seems plausible. Right before Motorola made the nexus 6 they had made a phone basically stock and people have been asking for one. HTC needs help and the Nexus line has helped provide a boost for a company. There HTC 10 is cleaned up and HTC is in need of a boost right now. HTC made there Nexus one and I can see this being named the nexus 1-0.
Again I have been wrong before.

Hm, HTC..., they better do better than they did on the Nexus 9.
The Nexus 9 was an odd ball. They tried to capture both the 7 inch tablet users and the 10 inch tablet user in one device, and that made sense considering phablets were eating away at the 7 inch tablet market.
The reality is that the tablet market, especially for Android, is just not there. I think Google can capture back the excitement with Chromebooks running Android apps, especially if we get a detachable keyboard Chromebook.
Could we see a Chromebook/tablet hybrid with multi screen?

I've been eagerly awaiting a new 7" Nexus tablet since my 2013 Nexus has been giving up the ghost. I finally sent it in under the extended warranty to get a refund on the purchase price. Digitizer was getting spotty, the screen was showing red and green swirling when the screen would go to black and the charging port was as loose as my morals. Haven't heard anything solid about an announcement much less a release date. Hoping September or October at the latest. Latest rumor said something about after Nougat is released. Since nothing was officially mentioned at Google I/O or the MWC, my hopes are not high.
