Are themes "meaningful" in any way?

    Other than looks, do themes do anything that would make a phone run better or worse, or not at all? That is, other than a visual impact, is having one theme over the other going to affect phone speed or stability in any way?

    At worst, they would have a performance impact. At best, they are just eyecandy.

    Theming rocks tho... Come on, people dont care if their Droid runs a tiny bit slower as long as everything looks completely tied together design-wise... at least thats how i feel.

    I'm with you on that note. I'm running BB 1.0 with Nextheme and it's still pretty damn snappy and looks GREAT! I also have the droid icons and the drotheme helix launcher 2 goes great with it. This is my favorite set up to date on my droid. I wont leave this ROM for any other ROM out, unless a stable Desire ROM comes out with no 3g call bug then I would switch back n forth

    I cant imagine that they would impact performance in any way. It takes the same amount of processing power to display red as it does blue.

    Some png's are higher in size than the default ones. When packed into an APK, they take more RAM, thus impacting performance by a tiny bit. That's just my theory anyway. A simple example is the framework-res.apk that comes with nextheme, its about 25% bigger than the default themed framework.

    Also, do these phones have/use a framebuffer? Larger png's may cause a tiny lag compared to standard default ones.

    @LtKen

    Transparency takes more processing power.

    I'll give you that, of course. I was thinking the difference between a red notification bar and a blue one.

    How to go back to Pete's stock theme? Or how to uninstall smoked glass?

    I've noticed a huge start-up speed difference with the Stock Android theme and the Smoked Glass theme. Smoked Glass takes more memory and sits at the red droid eye much longer.
