Hey developers and fellow Android fanatics. I decided I want to share an app I developed, Root Browser.

Root Browser is like the popular app, Root Explorer. You can view and manage any file with root access. You can also multi select files and batch copy, move, zip, delete, tar. A sqlite database viewer is also included (click the home icon in the title bar).

Root Browser has all the functions of Root Explorer but I am offering it here for free :)

The version included here is the same as the free version on the market which supports ads. To get it to have the same functionality as the pro version without ads all you need to do is create this file:

    /system/etc/.root_browser

    (don't forget the ".")

Re-open the app and voila! you have the premium features.

ROM Developers--Please feel free to include this in your ROM! This is the main reason I wanted to give you the app with the pro features. If you decide to put it in your ROM please just follow the below guidelines:

    1) Do not resign the package with your own key
    2) Please include the free version, not the paid version of the app
    3) Create the /system/etc/.root_browser file to enable full functionality
    4) If you are feeling generous let the users know where the app came from and that they can support development by getting the pro version :p

    Thanks Android fam!

    thank you!

    Edit:
Question... Will you be optimizing the app to minimize the size? Currently it is 2.2M compared to 272k for Root Explorer and 331k for AndExplorer (what I currently use). As I am currently rocking the D1, space is very precious to me. Once I get a new phone (*patiently* waiting for the GNexus) this shouldn't be an issue.

Shouldn't need to. I just exited and reopened and the ads and all were gone.

I Installed this and I can't see anything but "empty list". It seems to be at the root of the file system but all I see is a black screen. And it will not exit unless I hit the droid home button. What did I do wrong?

Any chance of adding a more tablet friendly layout option in the future?

Thanks for this, it's awesome! I have ROM Toolbox Pro, but it's nice to have the root browser as standalone also. Just one thing I've noticed so far that Root Explorer has that this doesn't; the "send" menu option when long pressing a file, to allow uploading files to dropbox etc. If you add this feature, I'll drop Root Explorer altogether :)

    *edit*
nevermind, the send option is there when in sdcard only but it's there. Thanks again!

I am sorry for asking such a noob question, but how exactly do you create the .root_browser file? I've done searches to try to figure out how to create a file in the root directory, and I just can't find anything. Thanks in advance for a response.

Go into system/etc and when in there click on the + in the top right corner. Once you do that select "file."

I tried that before even posting. I get a "Failed to create .root_browser" popup. Same with trying to create folders.

Strange. Do you have root access enabled for it?

I got really excited when you suggested that because I had not yet given it root access. Switched on, still no good. Same popup message. Any other ideas?

Does the app show up in superuser like this: [IMG]
You could also use another file explorer to create the ".root_browser" file.

    Tapped from an Unbrickable DROID

I'm using MIUI which has its own version of Superuser, but I'm pretty sure I have it set with root access.
