Here are some useful tips to help maintain your battery and save your power:

    1. Deactivate WiFi when not needed

If your phone is constantly sniffing out and trying to connect to every WiFi signal in the area, you are wasting power. Switch off WiFi when you know you are not going to need it.

    2. Keep your battery cool

Do not keep or store your mobile phone in or around areas that are hot. These include cooking surface, near a clothes’ iron, and even the glove compartment in your car.

    3. Allow partial discharges

Unlike NiCad batteries, Lithium-ion batteries do not have a charge memory. That means deep-discharge cycles are not required. In fact, it is better for the battery to use partial-discharge cycles.

    4. Do not completely discharge your battery

Do not completely discharge your battery. Your battery life is shortened every time you fully discharge it. So instead of discharging to 0%, Li-ion batteries do best when you discharge them for a little bit (shallow discharge), then charge them for a little bit.

    5. Avoid overcharging your phone

Your battery may be damaged by extensively overcharging. So when your phone is done with charging, please unplug it right away to protect it from over-heating.

    6. Turn Bluetooth off when not needed

Turning your Bluetooth off when you are not using it will save your phone from having to go out and check if any Bluetooth device is around every few seconds.

    7. Never use a mobile phone that is hot to touch.

Overheated mobile phones and batteries can cause serious injuries. Also, unplug a charging phone immediately if there are signs that the phone or battery is overheating.

    8. Discharge your battery almost completely once a month

It is suggested that once a month you should allow your battery to almost completely discharge, say 10% of battery capacity. Continuous partial discharges create a condition called digital memory, decreasing the accuracy of the device’s power gauge.

    9. Low cell signal drains your battery

When you are in an area with poor or no signal, your phone will constantly look for a better connection, and will use up all your power doing so. The best way to ensure longer battery life is to make sure you have a great signal where you use your phone.

    10. Turn off the phone vibration function

Switch the vibrate function off on your phone and use just the ring tone. The vibrate function uses additional battery power. Keep the ring tone volume as long as possible.

    11. Set a shorter backlight timeout

The backlight is what makes the phone easier to read in bright light or outside. However, the light also uses battery power. If you can get by without it, your battery will last longer. So please set your backlight timeout to the shortest length possible.

    12. Avoid live wallpapers

Avoid using moving or animated pictures or videos for your background. Animated backgrounds will drain the battery faster.

    13. Avoid using unnecessary features

If you know it will be a while before your phone’s next charge, don’t use the camera or connect to the Internet. Flash photography can drain your battery especially quickly.

    14. Reduce your screen brightness

The screen of your phone drains a lot of your battery life. Turn the brightness of the display to as low as you are confortable with.

    15. Opt for a plain black background

If you are using a mobile device with an AMOLED (also known as Super AMOLED or OLED) display, please use a black background whenever possible and it will save your battery life.

    16. Prefer WiFi rather than cellular data

It is much more power-efficient to use WiFi than to use cellular data, so switch to WiFi instead of 2G data, 3G or 4G when you can, to save your phone’s battery life.

    17. Switch off GPS

When the GPS receiver in your phone is active, it looks for satellites and its processor prepares information to be sent to any application that needs it. If you are not navigating, turn off GPS and let the device use whatever alternative location services your wireless network provider may offer.

    18. Auto sync drains your battery

For background data, auto sync is used for Google real time synchronization such as Gmail, Google contacts, etc. If you don’t need these functions, try to avoid auto sync.

    19. 3G/4G consumes more power than 2G

3G and 4G networks consume much more power than 2G networks. If it is unnecessary, try to open only 2G networks. It also saves lots of battery power.

    20. Kill apps you aren’t using

Applications in background also consume battery, so please make sure that no applications are running in the background.

    21. Turn off push notifications

Social apps often display push notifications alerting you the updates within the apps. For example, Facebook displays “Has added a photo of you”. By shutting these off, you can save battery life on your handset.

    22. Dump unnecessary home screen widgets

Just because they are sitting on the home screen, seemingly inactive, does not mean they are not consuming power. That goes for widgets that poll status updates in the background, as well as ones that sit there but look pretty and animated.

    23. Disable the Adobe Flash

Adobe Flash is a real culprit in running down your battery. It consumes much of your battery when you browse web pages on your Android phone. A good expert advice will be to enable Adobe Flash on your browser whenever you do need it there.
