well is anyone? I mean why not just do it, just to do it?
and if we have a rooted version why can't we root the normal OTA?

no need to root the real ota cause the roms available blow the verzion update away. also there's nothing to gain from the effort as far as I have read. again as far as i have read.

It would be nice for those of us who did the OTA update to 2.1 and don't want to root via sbf back to 2.0.1 to force the update. I had a bad experience with my first droid trying rsdlite and really don't want to try it again. I'd love root access for Ti Backup and setcpu to start working again, as well as ROM Manager so I can make some backups.

There is no other way to root a stock OTA 2.1 system. IMO the SPRecovery sbf flash is pretty easy though.

AFAIK no dev is working on a different way to root stock 2.1 system.

I am a bit surprised a 2.1 direct root has not been found yet. Imho, it (if) will not come from a developer here, or at Alldroid or XDA, it will be some programmer/developer out there that is only looking for some notariaty. There will be no money in it for whomever does it, just "fame". Folks forget that the 2.0.1 hack did not come from a "regular" forum member at the usual places. The regulars at the various forums built upon the original exploit, and are busy making money and cranking out goodies for us. Not a lot of incentive for them to spend their time on it.

And I agree with the sentiment here that the steps used to root from 2.0.1 pale in comparison and complexity to the risk of using rsd lite and sbf. The folks here like to pat themselves on the back on how we have had no real "bricked" phones since sprecovery. If you read all of the various forums, there have been folks who have wrecked their phones, and sbf is one of the reasons.

thats what i was trying to kinda of put out there

yeah i have a way to root but i could easily brick my phone, and not be able to unbrick it

so basically make it a challenge, and who knows maybe rooting 2.1 might find a easier way to root in general, but until someone finds a way to root 2.1 i'll stick with my warranty, just wishing i had over-clock and more screens

There's no "challenge". Nobody is going to waste time doing it since you can
    a. Flash an SBF to get SP Recovery working
    or
    b. Flash an SBF to get to 2.01

Either way, there's not "prize" to rooting 2.1. It might happen but the efforts are being spent on improving the existing ROMs not rooting VZW's obsolete slow one. lol.
