I had been using Adamz smoked glass ROM for the longest time which has a custom themed Swype keyboard. I recently switched to Droidmod 1.0 for live wallpapers. So first I tried theming it via Metamorph using Adamz standalone smoked glass 2.0 theme but Metamorph tells me the path is not found. So then I took my standalone swype.apk (which had some crazy long name) renamed it to Swype.apk (so metamorph would reconize it), pushed it into my framework, and tried again. That succeeded in theming it, however it broke swype and it no longer works. Won't register any input. A one time message appeared that read something like english language not found or not available or something.

Anyone have have any suggestions? On how to theme Swype and not break it?

I had this happen to me before when I tried installing SlideIT unfortunately I had to re-install again. Try re-installing it again and see if it works.

Did you try extracting the swype.apk from his ROM and then just installing it with Astro like normal?

you have to move you /data/app/com.sywpe.apk *note the file name is likely different
to /system/app/Swype.apk *it must be spelled with capital "S"

I have to do this every time I install a new ROM its old hat to me. so using root explorer because its the EASIEST and is a MUST HAVE app for Rooted Droider.... just navigate to /data/app and find you swype.apk file it will be a different name, but still have swype in it and copy and paste to /system/app you then can use metamorph and theme it.

Ok lol disregard the install like normal suggestion I just tried it and it doesn't work. I'm trying to manually push it to /system/app to see if it does anything.

Where are you pulling the /data/app/com.sywpe.apk from a backup of Smoked Glass ROM is there a way to get it from his original ROM?

Once you move it to /system/app/Swype.apk won't it be skinned already since it's from his ROM or do you still have to use Metamorph to skin it? I didn't know his smoked glass mm theme had a swype theme on it.

1.install Swype it gets put in /data/app directory under what ever name it is given
metamorph doesnt look in /data/app it looks in /system/app and even it if did swype ends up with a different file name so....
2.make sure you have AdamZ's Smoked Glass V2.0 THEME it has a Skype skin and Facebook
so if you install swype and move it from /data/app to /system/app/Swype.apk and run Smoked Glass V2.0 you can skin Swype

Ugh thanks lol I managed to figure it out yesterday. Unfortunately I had to buy Root Explorer in order to see the data/app folder. Does anyone know how to list it without having to go to root explorer, Root explorer is convenient and all but I's rather try to do as much in terminal as I can and that's the best thing I can do to learn commands and such.

Root Explorer is a VITAL app to have .... just sayin

    Code:
    su
    mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
    busybox cp -R /data/app/com.swype.android.apk /system/app/Swype.apk
    mount -o ro,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
    sync
    reboot
basically what this is doing to using busybox to move your swype app from the data location and its putting it in system/app and renaming it.
where it says "mount -o remount,rw etc etc" you can use droid root helper to mount its faster easier etc. pisses me off when I make a typo on that line of code and end up typing it 2/3 times

Lol that's not what I mean, I mean I know what commands to use but they wouldn't work because I had no way of knowing the name of my swype file. I want to be able to see a list of things in the /data/app file without having to go through root explorer. my swype name was com.swype.inputmethod.android.apk or something like that, is there a way to have known that without going through Root Explorer?

oic like ms dos if you type dir it gives you a list of all the files in that dir

    so
    su
    cd /data/app
    dir

although I just tried that and it didn't work so I am not sure what the magic word is that list all the files with in a certain directory

I tried this method, but swype just disappears from my keyboards list.. anyone got this to work?

I also tried replacing the images in the apk file, but then I would have to resign the apk which is too much of a hassle for something so minor
