played with one at At&t and it had some potential the phone size was about the size of my Nexus 5. My only issue is the tablet has way too much bezel and that is enough to keep me from considering it.

Maybe they are testing the waters in the US and more carriers will pick it up on the next release - kinda like what Samsung did with the initial Note :)...

No it should work on t mobile and straight talk just not Verizon and sprint. OK I know this is a Verizon house so you were meaning you want to see it on Verizon.

The phone needs to be attached to the tablet in order to receive wifi/data. That's a deal breaker for me.

I have an Asus Padfone X and the phone does not need to be attached to the tablet in order to receive wifi/data. Where did you get that information?

According to reviews....

Does the tablet part of the Padfone function without the smartphone docked?

No. The tablet is essentially brainless. The smartphone is the brain of the Padfone and is required to make the tablet operational."

My apologies, please.
I interpreted your post as saying the phone could only receive wifi/data while being connected to the tablet.
The tablet does not function unless the phone is attached.

The Padfone X works great for my needs. Most of my use is in tablet mode. When I do go somewhere, its pretty simple to grab the phone and take off.

Wow. On bad allergy days where my eyes don't cooperate, no more need to switch between tablet and phone but just simply plug the phone into the dock to make it a giant screen, bigger than a phablet screen?
No more different uis on different devices to contend with at app update time (continued fragmentation is my biggest pet peeve with Android)
The possibilities! I could really see this thing being a win for the visually challenged. Pinch zoom not big enough? Plug it in. Fonts not big enough? Plug it in. The dock is still small enough to be easily portable, not as big as my 10"tablet, and about the size of my Note8 overall.
