How do you get the Gmail notifications to work? I installed the notifications app but on which icon is the number of unread displayed? The normal Gmail app shortcut icon? Thanks.

The Gmail notifications were broken with the latest Gmail update. They are apparently working on a fix or workaround. You can see the notice on the dev's site -

It actually wont work if you're using the latest gmail. The last update for gmail, to 2.3.5, does not allow 3rd party apps to sync with it. For example I have launcher pro plus and the gmail widget and unread count on dock no longer work.

Ah, thanks guys. Is there a way to uninstall the latest gmail app or uninstall the update? Im on GB .602. I could do this before with Froyo but can't seem to do it now.

Cant seem to do what, uninstall the update? Do you mean the normal way through manage applications or are you rooted and want to do it another way?

Ok, I was able to uninstall the latest gmail update. Where does the unread count appear? On the dock icon?

Yeah it should just show up on the dock icon. Although admittedly I haven't used it in a while so I'm not sure that its still the same. It most likely is though.
