I live in Tennessee, but I do cross the battle lines quite often heading into the Shoals area.

When I visit the office of one of my clients my Droid always picks up an open Wifi signal named "Android Tether". So I guess that means there is at least one rooted user in Florence.

Yeppers...I too m in Alabama...North Eastern portion, in Boaz. Reference it by triangulating Gadsden, Huntsville and Ft Payne....Boaz is in the middle of those 3 cities...

I love messing with the Android OS...just rooted my Droid X last week on day 3 of owning it...but so far havent done anything else while waiting for Froyo...
