I have a couple newb questions about storage on my phone:

My "application storage" has 1.45gb in available space.....is this how much space I have to store apps on my phone's hard drive?

My "internal storage" says total space is 4.31gb and available is 4.23...the phone is supposed to have 8gb of internal storage so is this 4.23 available because of the amount of space that android and all the other programs that run the phone?

So then I downloaded elixir and it says I have 1.5/1.9gb internal left and
4.2/4.3gb external space left.......so I'm confused as to how much storage I actually have left...

Application storage is for apps that are protected and cannot be moved to the SD cards.

8GB internal memory is 2GB protected application / 6GB unprotected.
8GB SD card is all unprotected.
You should be able to move unprotected apps to either via the application setting -> move to media area.

Also, the 6GB internal memory is classified as /mnt/sdcard, while the SD card is /mnt/sdcard-ext, so Android treats the internal memory as the primary SD card, while the actual SD card is a secondary external.
