Did you back up your apps before you rooted? I use Astro and highly recommend it to back up my apps before wiping.

If you are manually installing root/ROMs, most guides will have you back-up. In fact, I've yet to come across ANY guide on this forum that doesn't have it built into the steps.

So if you are using a guide on this forum board, you did read about back-up some place.

Note: Rooting doesn't remove any apps or actually change your configuration. It only allows you access to system files.

Like I said, Google saves your contacts in the cloud and should resync once you input your Google info, if you even have to re-input your Google info.

If all you did was root then you shouldnt have lost ANY data or apps. What else did you do to the phone?

Oh well yea if you installed the sholesmod and rooted, installed sprecovery, and flashed a custom rom then ya...but you made it sound like you lost your apps after just rooting the phone which should not happen.
