I've heard others mention this from time to time but I've never heard it myself so I'm not sure what to tell you.

I've read that it's because roaming is checked.
menu - settings - sound - roaming tone

Close, the annoying sound comes from settings- sound- connection sound

or something like that. I accidently checked this as well and it makes this weird tone in your ear as it connects and disconnects the call.

pool_shark is correct. The OP is hearing "Verizon Wireless". Just happened to me last week.

Weird, for awhile I had this annoying sound and it was the "Call connect" option. It's a "set sound emitted when call is connected" However, it also does it when call ends if you check that. I never check roaming tone. To be honest, I've never been in a Verizon area where I was in "roaming" status and I've moved from Texas, to Florida, to California, to Indiana, to now Ohio lol.
