In March of last year, Google’s Larry Page announced that Andy Rubin was stepping away from the Android team at Google to work on making super smart robots. The move was a bit of a surprise, since he co-founded the operating system that has now taken over the smartphone world. But hey, people need change some times, and that’s apparently what Andy was looking for.

Today he is officially leaving Google. According to the Wall Street Journal, Rubin is “starting an incubator for start-ups interested in building technology-hardware products.”

When it's time, it's time. He's chasing his dream, and good for him. Android isn't going anywhere.

If he's got other aspirations, there's really no reason why he shouldn't go after them. His creation has taken on a life of its own and he wasn't even on the team any more. Good for him to do something he's passionate about and great that he's doing it in a way that will help others get their ideas up and running.

Even if the company IS called Skynet...

It feels weird to have Google without Andy. It won't feel right saying "Andy the Android" in any of my stories now... :(
