I actually was using S Health on my Note 4 for the step counting, but I've decided I miss the days of having a nexus device, so I've begun transitioning away from the Samsung Specific apps.
I switched to Fit and I like that it'll so me my steps if I ask, but the goal is a set number of minutes worth of activity. Given how I tend to agree that I don't think these things are very accurate in their step count, that's been a better motivator for me. I set it fairly low to start, 36 minutes a day. I'm about to bump it up to at least an hour, because I'm hitting that and then some every day even though I've been managing to stay in my office for more of the day lately.
Like Sajo, I do like to find excuses to get up and get out of the office from time to time, but it doesn't always happen.
Time moving vs steps taken seems like a better measure to me though, given the accuracy (or lack thereof) of these devices.
I think S Health gave me a better count because it was just on my phone, so it didn't register random hand movements while at my desk as maybe walking a little. That could just be me fooling myself though, because I read an article somewhere at some point that explained that hip-mounted step counters tend to be far closer to accurate for that reason. Makes sense to me.
