Settings-applications-manage-all-media storage. Clear data. This worked for me back on 1.6, and hasn't been a problem since.

When u restored your apps did u restore the music playlists? its a system app in green but its been known to cause that crash. try reflashing and when you restore apps DO NOT restore playlists and that should fix it.

SWEET!!! it worked!!!! i just loaded LGB 1.9 and i couldn't play music, movies, camera, or even set my alarm clock (late to work this morning) i tried copying SD card to computer, erasing SD, then copy all things back and NOT overwriting android folders that it made after the format/reboot, but THIS worked great!!!!

I had an issue on my new Droid3. Android.process.media was eating up half my cpu time for some reason. This method fixed it! Thanks!

(update) Nevermind. The problem returns after reboot.
