The Droid cannot hold a candle to the Droid X

maybe in screen size haha. but everywhere else, a rooted oc'ed droid will easily hang with an X and destroy it in most categories
And when 2.2 goes live on the Droid X all bets are off.

I'd describe the Droid 1 as a pickup truck and the rest as sports cars. It might not be the fastest, though it can go darn fast, or the prettiest, though it still looks good, but it goes through everything thrown at it, it has the most versatility, and we'll be tinkering on it for a long while yet to keep it on the road.

Please don't put the moto devour in the same line up as an android device, motoblur, as we all know is a cheap knock off of the android os.

If we're going for car analogies, think of it this way: would you buy a car with its hood welded shut by the manufacturer?

OK, but based on price alone, I would have to assume that the X, Incredible and 2 have to be far superior to the "lesser" android phones, right?
Refer to the specs. Don't rely on price as anything other than price.

As the discussion in this thread suggests, "superior" is highly subjective and you need to qualify you mean any time you use the word. While newer and more expensive devices may tend have better specs there are other reasons why someone might consider one device to be superior to another (lack of UI, rootability, physical characteristics, etc etc).

Actually, Price is subjective and not a good measure of a product. Strangely enough, similar products will function just as well or better than others at higher price points simply on the fact that you are paying more for some things that might not be necessary.

For instance, looking at iPhones as the classic example of similar products, but in some cases, like the iPhone 3G series, besides the memory differences, case design and probably processor, there isn't much functionality difference to iPhone or the iPhone 4 at a normal user perspective. Only those who hack and tweak their phones would really get more benefit from one of the different models over the other.

In the case of Droid phones, it is simply more of who will give you what you want. While I have not looked at how the other Droid phones will do, I am sticking with my stock Motorola Droid 1 cause of Google Navigation and how it is setup.

android OS is the operating system.

Droid is basically a line of android phones for verizon(cant even say high-end phone since the eris was release as a low-end phone and fascinate has the best spec currently out of all of the phone in the droid-line)

The top 5 android phone is

EVO 4g
Droid x
Galaxy S(fascinate, vibrant, Epic 4g, Captivate)
Droid(2nd most supported in the hacking community)
Nexus One(clearly the most supported in the hacking community)

These are the top 5 android devices right now. And yes the droid 2 is a downgrade of the droid 1. bad reception, terrible UI, lock boot loader while. Even though it has better spec but after waiting for official update from motorola for 2.1 good luck especially with a lock bootloader. At least the droid x have bigger screen, better camera and HDMI port and better battery life.

The September issue of Consumer Reports has a nice discussion on smart phones. The Androids in general were recommended (including the Droid X, which came out too late for their regular review).

It came out for Verizon.
Droid 1
Droid Incredible
Droid Eris

T-Mobile
HTC myTouch
HTC HD2

and Sprint
Evo 4G
