Has this been discussed? I have had my Droid X for about a month and am totally impressed. I have had every cell phone from the WM to BB and this thing really is impressive. I would totally buy an Android laptop if they offered one, along the same lines as the Macbook Pro. Any thoughts or opinions?

Yeah man, have there been any rumors of this? I have a Macbook Pro and totally love it but I would pickup an Android for sure.

Not laptops per say, tablets are the only thing I've heard of.

Not a good idea. Android on a laptop/netbook is just not something that works well. I received my Toshiba AC100 running Android and it absolutely sucks as an Android device. On the other hand it is coming along nicely as an Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook Remix ARM device :icon_ banana: Now there are other Android laptops/netbooks as well. Acer makes the D255 and it is BLECH as well. Here is a review of the Acer

DistroWatch.com: Put the fun back into computing. Use Linux, BSD.

What IS awesome is ARM powered Nettops and Smartbooks/Netbooks. The Genesi Efika MX, Efika MX smartbook, Toshiba AC100 and upcoming NuFront stuff

Now hit them links and DREAM and hope and well.. whatever you do when you see ARM powered tech goodness!!

EDIT: Let's not forget the soon to be released Guru Plug DEV edition with an HDMI out and the Augen Espresso Doppio, assuming it lives up to their description. Now they will awesome little toys as well.

What is it that you don't like about the AC100. I am not a fan of the netbooks and my idea of an Android Laptop is like what I have right now specification wise of my Macbook Pro (3.06gHz, 8GB ram, 256GB SS drive).

I like my AC100 but it sucks as an android device. As an ARM powered linux netbook it rocks.

EDIT: OK back to a PC with a keyboard. Android on a high end device like the Macbook Pro would essentially be useless. There is no multi-touch display and the UI for Android just doesn't work well at all with a keyboard and mouse for everything. It is almost un-intuitive. Whereas the AC100 being powered by the Tegra 2 250 running Linux is a nice little, power sipping screamer. If you really want to have some fun going powerful and low power get yourself a G4 iBook @ 1.33 Ghz w/ a gig of RAM running Ubuntu 10.10 PPC. That there is one hell of a system and they can be had for $250 on EBay all day long.

Google has Chrome OS. I think they've said that eventually Android and Chrome would merge, or be very tightly integrated.

Personally I think this is their plan of attack to make a serious dent into the PC OS. Get enough people in love and connected with Android and running a fully integrated/merged Chrome will be very appealing to them. You can't take on MS on their own turf, so Google is trying to get Android on all the other devices in the home and so on and then backwards integration into PC is inevitable.

Google and VZW have the potential, together, to dominate telecom. If you haven't noticed a lot of nervous people in Cupertino and Redmond you haven't been paying attention. Although if Sony comes out with a good PS3 android phone things might get interesting, or Apple and MS could just be facing a 3-headed monster.
