Why has no one compiled a gingerbread kernel for the droid. It should fix many hardware issues that can not be solved by the developers who do not write kernels, There are lots of kernel developers, can one of you begin a build on the gingerbread kernel for th droid, it should fix most issues. I think?

    Kernel Build

Can we use froyo drivers in the gingerbread kernel? If so, I can try and build one.

I might go try. Now to boot up my linux, this could take a while. I hope it works. I would love to be able to contribute something back to the great android community.

Yea ive been contemplating building my own kernel also but just havent had the time in between work and school. I figured it cant be too much different than building a linux kernel which I have done successfully many times (and unsuccessfully many more times! lol).

I hope it isn't too hard. It would seem to be a straightforward build. There are guides to make sure i don't screw up.

You'd have to compile 2.6.35, but Google only has the source for the optimized kernel for the Nexus S...

We're trying to compile the 2.6.35 kernel (not the 2.6.32 kernel) to try to fix problems like USB and accelerometer.

Could someone with more kernel building experience, like chevy or p3, take the .35 kernel add omap drivers and compile it for omap target?

I dont understand why the kernel source is out but we cant do anything with it, is it a problem with the modules?

I think the "general" kernel source is out, which lacks the proper drivers / hardware references for our OMAP chipset. That's the impression I got, but I'm often wrong. Jeff could probably elaborate / correct me.

Are those kernals actually built from gb source? I was under the impression they were essentially lfy/slayher kernals that were optimized for LGB (i.e slightly higher voltages)
