Once again the development community comes through on a major Android update way before the OEM. The Sony Xperia Z1 was released back in September of 2013. This phone will more than likely never be officially updated to Marshmallow. If you want to run Marshmallow on this device you will need to flash a custom rom.

Developer "Ev3rtH" has just posted his first build of MM for the Z1. This is still in alpha stages and for most people this build will not be usable as a daily driver. Working functions of this rom include Screen, Brightness, Orientation sensor, ambient light sensor, wifi, bluetooth, imei. Not working includes Camera, NFC, GPS, and Internal SD. If you want to experience Android 6.0 on the Z1 just be sure to backup your current setup so that you can easily get back to a more stable build. Head to the link below for the download.
