When Huawei announced the Mate 9 one of the main selling points was that it would eventually receive an update that would add the Amazon Alexa virtual assistant. That day has come and Mate 9 units are beginning to receive the update OTA. The update is labeled MHA-L29C567B183 and is about 310MB in size. The main feature of the update is the Amazon Alexa app. You will be able to use all commands within the app that you would be able to use on the Echo speaker.

Home Automation, Games/Trivia, Shopping, Fitness/Health, News, and Entertainment are all included with Amazon Alexa on the Mate 9. The only drawback is that Alexa doesn't support hot word detection so you won't be able to activate it on your phone by simply saying "Alexa" with your voice. With Google announcing they will roll out Google Assistant to all devices running Android 6.0 or higher this means that the Mate 9 will be the first and only device to feature both assistants. You should be seeing this update come through on your phone. If not you can manually check for it in settings and system update.
