Alittle confused about something with Nandroid

I am about to root my droid and have backed up everything using MyBackup Pro. I am in 2.1 and found out that i should go back to stock before rooting. I found this guide on how to go back to stock:
    http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-hacks/13466-how-back-stock-no-su-no-busybox-etc.html
I downloaded both of the files it says to, but the 2nd file is supposed to be put into the Nandroid folder on my SDcard. Ive been doing research on what Nandroid is and found this:
Nandroid v2.0 - Full NAND backup and restore tool (tried and tested!) - xda-developers
Now this says that my phone has to be rooted to install Nandroid.

Im getting confused on how im supposed to install Nandroid since my phone isnt rooted yet.

So you're on the official 2.1 ota? If so you need to follow this thread Unroot/Unbrick your phone using .sbf to get back to stock 2.0.1 then follow this thread [Release] 2.0.1 stock to 2.1 with root! to rooted 2.1.

Use this link Unroot/Unbrick your phone using .sbf as nfcrockett say and then can go from there.
