We are weeks away from the start of 2017 but before we get there let's talk about from whence we came.

This is going to be a multi-part session as we will look at the many stories that made up the 2016 year.

The first story I am going to kick the year off with is Mark Zuckerberg's Iron man style house. Reported by @dgstorm via Zuckerberg's fb post, Z wanted to build a UI that would help him around the house (Mark Zuckerberg is Building a House AI Control System 'like Jarvis in Iron Man'). Not sure where he got with that but Google is quickly making that a reality with Google Home.

Angry Birds movie trailer was shown in January as well (Angry Birds Movie Gets its First Trailer)

We saw a team up with HTC and Under Armour with the Healthbox (Under Armour & HTC Team Up to Bring Complete Fitness Ecosystem of Devices) and that was the last we heard of that as well as HTC's innovation.

The LeMax Pro launched with the first 820 phone. At the beginning of the year not many heard of the company but they made some buzz in the 3rd quarter. The First Snapdragon 820 Phone Is Coming From An OEM You Have Never Heard Of!

CES brought us a few interesting concepts such as LG's flexible displays (LG Plans to Demo an 18-inch Rollable Newspaper-like Display at CES), Casio's rugged watch (Casio Shows Off Gigantic, Rugged Android Wear Watch at CES), VicoVr (CES 2016 VicoVR), Ecocell USB batteries (CES 2016 EcoCell USB batteries), Bluetooth smart pad locks (CES 2016 Noke), and the Lenovo Project Tango phone (Google & Lenovo Team Up to Bring Project Tango’s Augmented Reality to a Smartphone). And we can't forget how the feds decided to raid the show (CES 2016 The Federal Raid).

Also in January @DroidModderX reported on a story on how to enable Hi-Fi DAC for all audio players on the V10 (LG V10 How To Enable Hi-Fi DAC Audio For All Music Players). Something it appears LG paid attention to this year.

Onda made an android/windows hybrid tablet (Onda V820W Android/Windows 10 Hybrid Tablet Full Review)

We saw carriers begin to fold and model some of their plans to reflect what T-Mobile was doing (T-Mobile's 'playing chicken' Finally Pays Off; AT&T is the First Big Carrier to Blink...)

Google made it easier to get to your photos from the camera app with a shortcut (Google Photos Shortcut Built Into Camera With New Update!).

One of the first devices to get some hype was the LG G5 (LG G5 Pics Supposedly Leaked [Rumor]), and unfortunately it did not see much love after it was launched to the public. Also saw how LG was going to have a quick solution to swapping out batteries (LG G5's Unique Removable Magazine Design Could Hold 'accessory' Slot As Well). Oh and who can forget LG popping off their gums at Samsung about a lack of a removable battery (LG Just Trolled Samsung on Twitter Over Removable Batteries)

Carriers fought over who had the fastest colored balls (http://www.droidforums.net/threads/...e-sprint-ads-fight-over-colored-balls.287010/).

S7 edge made it's debut in a leak blurry photo (http://www.droidforums.net/threads/...isplay-shows-up-in-leaked-photo-rumor.286655/) as we kicked off the Samsung S7 hype. And we could not wait to see what Samsung had cooked up for the 21st of Feb (http://www.droidforums.net/threads/...ouncement-confirmed-for-february-21st.287113/)

We got our first rumor on how Google will look to take more control of development of their devices (http://www.droidforums.net/threads/...e-like-approach-with-nexus-line-rumor.287151/).

Samsung's Browser added ad blocking (http://www.droidforums.net/threads/official-samsung-browser-receives-ad-block-support.287147/).

We also learned how far behind we were with our LTE speeds (http://www.droidforums.net/threads/...ismal-55th-place-in-global-lte-speeds.287189/).

HTC got some love with a leaked photo of the M10 (http://www.droidforums.net/threads/an-image-of-the-htc-one-m10-emerges.287222/) and questions began on whether HTC could make a comeback. http://www.droidforums.net/threads/htc-one-m10-rumor-indicates-5-2-inch-diagonal-display.287286/

7 day battery life was something for us to dream about. As we continue to want larger battery capacity devices in the footprint of smaller devices (http://www.droidforums.net/threads/7-day-battery-life-coming-soon-to-a-flagship-near-you.287292/). What could possibly go wrong with that request?

We finally got a look at the S7 and S7 edge and we just could not wait for the next Note. (http://www.droidforums.net/threads/...iled-full-specs-features-release-date.287453/)

The first hint that the Nexus of 2016 was not going to be (http://www.droidforums.net/threads/no-lg-made-nexus-device-in-2016.287586/).

More people said they would buy the G5 over the S7/S7 edge in our polls (http://www.droidforums.net/threads/lg-g5-or-samsung-galaxy-s7-or-samsung-galaxy-s7-edge-poll.287456/). Yet it appears as if polls do not always equate to actual sales.

The debate on whether manufacturers are required to help the feds by unlocking their smartphone began with this thread (http://www.droidforums.net/threads/...-apple-wont-help-hack-shooters-iphone.287488/), and my did we get some opinions.

The naming of N has begun (http://www.droidforums.net/threads/...d-after-seaweed-is-google-trolling-us.287628/) or so we thought.

The first report that HTC was working on a Nexus phone for Google (http://www.droidforums.net/threads/...de-apple-3d-touch-like-controls-rumor.287702/).

HTC was starting to feel like things were looking up (http://www.droidforums.net/threads/...-jumps-20-on-htc-vive-enthusiasm-more.287790/) while people were seeing how waterproof the S7/S7 edge really was (http://www.droidforums.net/threads/samsung-galaxy-s7-goes-swimming-in-a-pool-and-comes-out.287728/).

Verizon updated their Note 5 to marshmallow (http://www.droidforums.net/threads/...w-receiving-android-6-0-1-marshmallow.287721/) and the clock started for us AT&T Note 5 owners (spoiler: I gave up waiting).

We got our first developer preview for android N (http://www.droidforums.net/threads/google-releases-android-n-developer-preview-1.287849/). While the official launch day was announced for the anticipated S7/S7edge (http://www.droidforums.net/threads/samsung-galaxy-s7-s7-edge-retail-launch-day.287876/).

Nike self lacing sneakers? Yeah whatever (http://www.droidforums.net/threads/nikes-new-self-lacing-sneaker-available-q4.287990/), wait MKHB posted a video a week ago about such a thing....hmmm interesting.

Michael Kors got an android watch and no one cared as we began to see the quick decline of android wear interests (http://www.droidforums.net/threads/michael-kors-will-be-releasing-an-android-wear-watch.288034/).

G5 Pre-orders started in late March (http://www.droidforums.net/threads/...re-now-live-include-free-360-cam-more.288167/) and people could not wait.

A report surfaced about Netflix throttling down for Verizon and At&t and the outrage sparked a change (http://www.droidforums.net/threads/...ling-at-t-and-verizon-streams-to-360p.288199/).

We end the 1st quarter with talks of an At&t CM phone that never saw the light of day (http://www.droidforums.net/threads/at-t-may-tap-cyanogen-for-a-non-android-smartphone-rumor.288291/).

So what was your favorite first qtr story?
