If I upgrade to. 905 will I lose root? If so, is it rootable with motofail?

I re-rooted mine with Motofail.

I was using Forever root, upgraded from 902 to 905 with no problems, and maintained root. Very painless. Just make sure if you have any frozen/removed bloat to defrost/reinstall all of it before updating.

Motofail works so even if not "forever rooted" you are fine and can reroot after
