so i assume the way in install these is the same as any ROM or theme?
BONUS! My phone boots the ulv kernel.
BUMMER! ADW Force Closes and the phone goes into the bootanimation loop.
Is that with every ULV kernel or just certain ones? Sometimes, and it's counter-intuitive, a higher-speed kernel will work with the ULV when a lower-speed one won't. Of course, if you can boot with any LV you want but none of the ULV, it just means your Droid is a little power-hungry. As long as it's not calling itself Napoleon, Hitler, Stalin, Sadam Hussein, or Dubya, I think you're alright.
ULV 1.25 on, running fine
H**L I can't even boot the LV 1Ghz kernel. for experimentation, I put a different (p3droid) 800mhz LV kernel on and it runs fine.
When I say different, I mean different than the stock BB 0.4 800Mhz LV kernel.
I can get it to boot (once) but at 1.2ulv, adw fc's and it reboots. At 1ghz lv, after 20 seconds of being in, the phone freezes then reboots and gets stuck at the M logo.
Perhaps I will just install SS and see if that changes anything.
If not, phone can't handle it. Oh well, better luck next time
Some phones don't like some dev's kernels. Every Droid is different.
Some phones can do 1.3 GHz without blinking or overheating, others boot-loop when pushed faster than 800MHz. Part of the "fun" is finding out which works best for you.
Sounds like a heat issue. Let your Droid cool off for a few minutes before trying again -- and are you running SetCPU on performance or ondemand?
The phone is room temp which is about 72 degrees F. Not heating up at all. (User Error) but I am pretty sure I know what I am doing. I'll just mess around with it for awhile, see if I canbreak the 800mhz barrier.
Nevermind, SetCPU says 95 degrees. Doesn't feel that hot. (thats for the battery.
OMAP3 temp is 80.6 but I can make it get upto 94 just by scrolling up and down the screen.
And now after 2 or 3 minutes, I cant get the OMAP3 off of 77 degrees by doing the exact same thing (scrolling)
Interesting stuff (to me anyways)
SetCPU is ondemand by the way
We all get caught up short by some small thing from time to time. I once read a report by a guy who spent 20 minutes having a kernel install fail because he'd forgotten to tell SPRecovery to allow the update.zip install. Epic facepalm.
With my phone and the last Eclair kernels Chevy released:
1.25GHz ULV -- boot loop at the DROID boot animation.
1.2GHZ ULV -- booted, lagged, froze up after 20 minutes and had to do a battery pull. Heat issue; 93-degree day and was using it while grilling some steak.
1.1GHz ULV -- rock steady, occasional heat issues (thank all that's holy for SetCPU).
When FroYo rolled around I traded up for his ULV FroYo kernels and didn't even try anything over 1.1 and everything's worked right up till he tried putting all the network extensions back in -- stuck at the M, constantly rebooting without even getting to the CyanogenMod 6 RC-2 boot animation. I waited till he had that issue cleared up and tried again. Perfecto. Maybe with his new one I'd have success with the 1.25; maybe I'd need to use his LV 1.25 to go that fast. I'm not interested in finding out.
I have noticed a weird, occasional, temperature spike in SetCPU's widget, but I wonder if that's a SetCPU coding issue or if it was related to CM 6 RC-2 because I haven't had an issue since moving up to RC-3. True, that was last night, but... until it repeats I can't say for sure either way.
Thanks Chevy! Your kernels keep me happy and my Droid running great!
No I agree. I made a backup so.... I just wiped my phone clean and I will go from square one and see what happens. My new project is to break 800mhz. (If it kills me or the phone)
