72 New Emojis Coming To Unicode 9.0

Earlier this year we took a look at the 74 emojis that were being considered for Unicode 9.0. It seems the final list of additional emojis has been decided. The Unicode Technical Committee has approved the following 72 emojis for Unicode 9.0 which will land on both Android and iOS later this year.

Android N already supports Unicode 9.0. Nexus devices will receive official Android N this fall. Other manufactures will bake Unicode 9.0 into their skin overlays after that. Apps like Facebook and WhatsApp can easily include these in their app with an update.

I like using basic emoji as much as the next person, but it's gotten to the point where they seem to be geared more towards the preteen crowd.
OR....perhaps we've truly come full circle since Emoji have been used as a means of communication for at least a few years before the advent of the smartphone.
