7-Zip and Bootstrap problems....

i recently got a new laptop for Christmas and told myself I would finally root my Droid X2 after having it since before it launched. That was the easy part. Now i tried installing 7-Zip, but its only saving it as a folder as soon as I download it and I'm having the same problem with downloading the X2 bootstrap because I cant change the apk from being a .rar file. now there was a program I downloaded a long time ago that fixed both the problems I'm having now BUT I cannot remember what the program is called. Now this was a problem I could've solved myself back when I had the original DROID, but I am now on the X2. Any help please??

i don't have a link.. but winrawr works great.. i've used it for years... and it works great for several type of compressed file formats
