As of SS 4.2, there are new versions of these tools - so if you plan on migrating/trying SS4.2 and need to wipe, go to this link and download/install the bkapps.zip file:

    http://chevyno1.richstevenson.com/froyo/4.2/bkapps.zip

Once installed and rebooted, run bkapps -c for a COMPLETE backup, including accounts, etc.

Wipe, flash 4.2. Run rstapps -c once phone is booted up. Reboot. You are done, the only thing that should be missing is the homescreen widgets.

Also NEW - bkapps/rstapps are 'apps2sd' aware - which means if you have some apps installed to SD when you run bkapps, it will remember - when you restore via rstapps, it will restore those same apps to SD :)

Just used the script and checked my SD card to make sure the backup was there, worked great.

I'm running bkapps -c which tells me it was successful, but when I go to restore, rstapps -c tells me that there is nothing to restore!

    Here's what I'm seeing:

From the amount of stuff in there, it looks like it probably did what it was supposed to do.

/sdcard/SimplyStunning has a bunch of other folders, too - from the time stamped directory names they look like they were probably the products of individual instances of running bkapps -c, which I did several times when things weren't working.

I'm making some food but I'll edit this post with screen caps in a bit in case it helps.

Thanks for the response. I'm probably just going to go ahead and wipe at some point soon and do a clean install of 4.2 and hope things work correctly. Seems easier even than Ti Backup if I can get it to work...

    EDIT:

I should probably add, in case it helps, that I originally ran bkapps today, did an update.zip to 4.2 without wiping, and found rstapps wasn't working. Then I restored my nandroid, backed stuff up with Ti Backup, and played with bkapps a few more times, getting what you see above when seeing if it worked in 4.1.

Sorry for the triple post: Wipe & clean installof 4.2 and rstapps worked. Docs to go paid version key didn't restore (saw the earlier posts about that, though).

Thanks for the hard work, Chevy.Your stuff rocks. You pretty much have me hooked to your stuff exclusively now because of how awesome the ULV kernels are.

This might be a stupid question but it wouldn't be the first time anyone posted one of those.

If there was an app (Google Voice for instance) that was
    a) pre-installed on a rom and I removed it via mvgv -d
    b) later reinstalled via the market so it sits with all those apps
    c) backed up with bkapps -c

If I flash SS4.2 do I need to remove that app from system\app before I restore with rstapps -c?

Will it try to restore a second copy of the app in data\app since that is where it is now? Should I even be a concerned?

Chevy: big problem. I was using 3.3, ran the bkapps.zip install, then did the bkapps -c then wiped and installed 4.2 but terminal emulator wont open and force closes, now in the market it shows as installed but open is grayed out. And its not even in the app drawer. How can I do the rstapps -c now?? HELP!!!

Use the terminal emulator inside dev tools

I'm a little confused here. Came from BB .021 and initially installed SS4.1 and then 4.2. Since I was coming from another Froyo Rom, I never wiped for either of the SS Roms, and everything seems to work fine, and for the most part carry over during the installs. I wanted to try the bkapps and love the referenced capability. My question, is with my current set up can I just install it as is and expect it to function properly? Great work on SS and the kernels.
