HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) - Verizon Wireless will be bringing its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network to Hampton Roads next month.
The 4G network will go live in Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Newport News, and Richmond on October 20, a news release from Verizon Wireless said.
In addition, Roanoke will come online by the year's end.
Verizon already has a 4G LTE network in Northern Virginia and Blacksburg.
The release said consumers with 4G LTE devices will be able to take advantage of a network with speeds up to 10 times faster than the company's 3G network.
Verizon Wireless introduced its 4G LTE network in December 2010, covering more than 110 million Americans, and has expanded to cover more than half the U.S. population.
The company said it will continue to expand its 4G LTE network and is on course to cover more than 185 million Americans by the end of 2011.
