3ghotspot prob

i just turned on hotspot tried to go on facebook and then twitt and i got a error message anyone know why ? Ive never used hot spot so i dont know if i did something wrong and what does hotspot do? I know this sounds stupid but i need to ask or i wont know:wacko:

The 3G Mobile Hotspot is for giving internet access to other devices by way of the data connection of your phone and plan. It does not do anything as far as accessing the internet on the acrual phone. Also, there is a $20 a month additional fee in order to use the app/service from Verizon.
