1. You want that $100.00 in your pocket or an Amazon Fire TV don't you? Well here's the deal. With our new updated look we are in desperate need of an updated logo. The 'old' one has certainly served us well, but it's time. Find all the details here: bit.ly/1q0k6Wa

Got my RAZR 2 months ago and it's been fine...last night went to sleep with it plugged in as usual, woke up it was off. Tried to turn it on, no dice. No white LED (battery too low), no LED at all, screen doesn't flash anything, the phone acts like it has no battery.

I searched a lot in these forums, tried the power + volume down for 10-20 seconds, volume up+power, volume down AND up +power, nothing works.

I took it to VZW they said it is covered under warranty so they sent me a new one will be here tommorow.

My issue is all the pictures and data on the internal memory. It's not deathly important but there are a lot of pictures that I'm sure certain ex gf's wouldn't want the nice Motorola techs seeing if they can ever get it turned on back at the factory, if you know what I mean.

In a last ditch attempt, I took the back cover off and checked the battery at the terminals (under the pink cap) and got 3.66v, so the battery definitely isn't dead/the issue.

So I guess my questions are...will the techs that refurbish my old phone see all the pictures and data on it or are they required to wipe it without looking? Also, I have a week to send the old one back once the new one arrives tomorrow....is there anything else I can try to do to get my pics/data off of it short of ripping the memory off the motherboard and recovering it through a recovery service?

    Thanks

You would think that Verizon/Motorola would do a factory reset as the first part of diagnosing the problem with your phone. There is a thread a few days old on this forum where a guy just got a Razr and it had porn and all sort of stuff on it...it obviously had not been "cleaned" by Verizon or Motorola. So, based on this I wouldn't bet on them wiping your phone before they start to "fix" it.

Hmm...I'm hoping/thinking that since it wont even turn on at all, even with factory cable, that they will wipe the whole thing. Guess that's my lesson of keeping all those pictures on the SD card only. I'm still fiddling with the phone, keeping it plugged in and still won't even give me a flash/beep/anything. It's like it got EMP'ed.

    Thanks for the reply

could be that the screen is cracked from the inside and you cant see it to be sure.

I don't think that's the case because I would hear/feel the opening theme and vibration..the phone does nothing at all, doesn't get warm, vibrate, or make that really high pitch whine you can hear when you put your ear to a smartphone. I've been reading a lot and it seems some RAZR CPU's just crash randomly rendering the phone useless. I guess in my situation I'm hoping for the worst failure possible in regards to my data...but I also am still trying to find a way to recover the data before I send it back.

There was another thread where the OP received a refurbed phone from VZW. It was not reset and had VERY personal pictures on it. They SHOULD do a reset but, reading that other post, it's not guaranteed.

If it is a screen issue and not the battery, you should be able to attach an HDMI outout and plug it into your TV or computer and see the screen. This will allow you to move your pictures to the external card before you send it back. If it is anything else, your data is most likely gone unless you take it to a data recovery expert.

I don't think it's the screen because there is no vibration/tone when I try and turn it on. So unless the screen, speaker AND vibrator motor all died, I don't think that's the case either, I think it's just not turning on. I guess I'm just worried it is a simple hardware issue like the power button just needs to be replaced or something "simple". If I had the extra $500 I would just buy the new one and keep this one...maybe learn what the factory would do to troubleshoot, maybe even try removing the solid state memory and trying to recover that way....but I don't. I've been trying to find some kind of tutorial/manual about troubleshooting the hardware/motherboard (I'm guess what the factory will do) but I can't seem to find anything, maybe its too complicated for a how to?

    Thanks for the replies.

Sorry that it wasn't an easier fix for you. I am afraid of something like that happening to me. I set up my Google account to automatically upload new pictures to my Google+ account. Takes the worry out of things like that. Good luck with it!
