I know the X got it.

Anyway to get that on a D1?
    Anyone working on it?
    Logistically possible?

    Just bored and curious...

You mean 2.2? There wont be a 2.3. The next version of Android will be 3.0.

And yes. The D1 got 2.2.

Call it what you want, it's still a 2.2-based Froyo ROM. There's nothing 2.3-ish about it aside from it's version number....

I heard the next Android Version will be 2.5/GingerBread and 3.0 will be named HoneyComb, but who really knows

Go to Setting, About Phone. You'll see that Version 2.3.15 is the Verizon build version. A little further down you'll see that the Android version number is 2.2.

Two companies, two numbers, one for Froyo, the other for the various additions and abuses to the former.

What I want to know is, will they ever NOT name a version of Android after some kind of junk food?

That is an update for 2.2 to deal with issues specifically on the Droid X. Since D1 does not have these issues with 2.2 there is nothing to port. Google has released a 2.2.1 for the D1 which can be downloaded and compiled or if you prefer I know several custom rom builders have started using it as the base for their roms. If you wish to download it and compile yourself both cvpcs and team dc have made how to guides which are available in their respective custom rom sections.
