I'm going nuts trying different methods to root this Droid1 phone.
Nothing will complete, every method I've tried fails.
I'm afraid if I keep experimenting, I'm going to brick this darn thing.
I've watched some U-tube instructions, but afraid to try them because the instructors sound like they are 12 years old.
Could someone who knows their stuff help me with this pigheaded phone??

Have you tried Motocache1's "root any droid regardless of OS"?

    No I haven't

    Hello Justin,
    Thanks for the reply.
I looked at it, but it doesn't refer to 2.2.2 and I don't want to experiment with anything else unless someone can assure me that it is for this version.

"regardless of OS version" means it will work for 2.2.2 also.

are you sure? Looks like su permissions were reset.
also they will restore factory custom recovery.

You must disable these two if you run OTA update and want to keep root from my brief analysis of the updater-script.

He most certainly lost root with the update but probably didn't know it when he posted.

Try using SetCpu, Root Explorer, Wireless Tether, etc., any app that requires root. You'll probably get a access denied message.

I use SuperOneClick. It says my device is rooted and it shows the "SU" (Droid skull and crossbones) in my apps list. However none of my root apps work. I only have two but neither work. Can anyone please help me? Thanks.

FYI, I was rooted before this 2.2.2 update I received. Barnacle worked without any problem before this. I was attempting to use rommanager again (previous attempts failed).

I installed the update (hey, I was curious!), and lost root. I was running RZrecovery 2.0.3 at the time of updating so I installed the zip file through rzrecovery. After the update install I lost root and rzrecovery. So, I went through MotoCache's "regardless of OS version" rooting process from scratch again, and then re-flashed rzrecovery, and everything worked out fine. The key is to follow the instructions to the letter, and you should be fine.

    Simple fix for FRG83G root

After the over that air update just about everyone I talked to, found they still had a superuser icon but it was non-functional. I jumped over to XDA forums and pulled down "Superoneclick" ver.1.7. Then I ran it on an XP. box in "psneuter" mode. After it completed and successfully ran an "su" command, I popped the battery out of my droid, after boot superuser is back and working (I tested by running wireless tether)..... good luck....

Of all the things I have lost.... I miss my mind the most!

I can comfirm that cpumd's simple fix for FR83G root works. My recently upgraded Original Droid to version 2.2.2 lost root access. Using the above method I am now able to wireless tether again.

    Thanks everyone.
