I just installed 2.1 and I am happy with it so far, very fast. But when it gets a bit closer to the official release from Verizon I would like to go back to 2.0.1 and get it from them (or someone in the community I guess). So could someone post the exact procedures that one needs to do to revert back to 2.0.1?

If you made a backup, you can just restore from that backup using sprecovery.

If you didn't, you can download the 2.0.1 clean image (some topic in this forum) and restore to that using sprecovery.

    Ain't sprecovery great?

sprecovery is the custom recovery image that everyone puts on their phone when they want to install custom ROMs on the Droid.

Does the 2.1 install instructions guide you through how to make a backup?

I believe it does, but if not, 2.1 install requires installing sprecovery and sprecovery has a menu called "backup/restore" in which you use "Simple nandroid Backup" which completely backups everything on your phone (I mean everything) and "Advanced nandroid backup," choosing that backup would put you back to the exact way your phone was before you installed 2.1.
